Dunedin is home to New Zealand's oldest university - the University of Otago. With a worldwide reputation for the excellence of its teaching and research, the University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the areas of Business, Health Sciences, Humanities and Sciences. The University also offers a foundation studies programme, as preparation for bachelor's study, and has a range of English prepatory courses available from its language centre.

Otago Polytechnic

The Otago Polytechnic provides a range of applied, vocationally based certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Business and Tourism, Art and Technology, and Health and Community. The Polytechnic also offers Foundation programmes and Spoken and Written English for academic study to prepare students for further scholarly pursuits.

Secondary

Dunedin is home to 12 highly rated secondary schools whose students consistently achieve top marks in national exams. Among these are the oldest boys' and girls' secondary schools in New Zealand. These schools provide a diverse choice of academic, sporting and cultural activities, and are exceedingly popular among international students who are welcomed by the entire community. There are also a number of Otago schools situated in towns outside of Dunedin city. These schools offer a diverse range of study choices and activities similar to Dunedin schools. Students can experience a very different lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

English Language Schools

Dunedin's private language schools have an emphasis on quality and specialist language teaching for students wishing to learn English for tertiary and secondary education preparation, business and trade or simply for the love of learning. English teachers at the city's private language schools benefit from the ongoing professional development both inside and outside the schools. Language schools in Dunedin generally have small class sizes of anywhere between 10 - 12 students. By focusing on small groups the language schools give students excellent opportunities to build their English skills, providing excellent tuition in all of the major English examinations like IELTS and TOEFL as well as helping students find their own pathways to further studies.

"Dunedin has a great quality of life. I love going to the beaches, swimming and going for walks. The people here are great and I would recommend Dunedin as a great place to study to anyone thinking of an international education.", Christian Rosecu, Romania
